Partnering institutions

COPEDIM is an international joint laboratory (2012-2016 and 2017-2021), called “Laboratoire Mixte International”, initiated by the french Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD), which provides a basic founding for networking every year.

The proposal of this laboratory was submitted jointly by the  Laboratoire Géosciences Environnement Toulouse (GET), depending partly on IRD, CNRS and University of Toulouse, and by the Universidad Católica del Norte (UCN) to IRD in 2009 and 2010. It obtained the maximum rating in 2010.  It was finally created in june 2012 by IRD and then renewed in 2017 after successful evaluation. It involves several institutions which have a common interest in studying pediments and associated supergene mineralization. Its center is localised at UCN.

COPEDIM is formally established by a specific convention between IRD and UCN, and by other conventions between IRD and the Geological Department of the University of Chile, and IRD and INGEMMET.
